Skills show update
Our Year 10 students visited Trinity Park Conference centre in Ipswich for the annual Skills Show. This is an opportunity for the students to meet and talk with representatives from colleges, sixth forms, apprenticeship providers and employers.
The range of career opportunities represented at the whole day event was considerable. Students had the chance to discuss farming and agriculture jobs and sit in a tractor; speak with people from the Armed Forces and sit in a helicopter and an army truck; experience a manicure with students studying health and beauty courses and pick up prospectuses from universities to discover the wide choice of courses on offer. There was even a chance to work a digger with a construction company, which was challenging and fun.
Throughout the day the students collected pens, sweets and information about options after GCSEs. Although the weather was wet and dull, it did not dampen our enthusiasm and the students got a lot out of the day. This is part of a whole school programme dedicated to expanding students’ knowledge so that they feel inspired and motivated in their learning and future plans. An enjoyable day was had by all.
Students are all encouraged to actively use the ‘Icanbea’ website and sign up to Apprenticeshipssuffolk.co.uk for active updates on what is available in the local labour market and economy.
