Five Weeks In

The Sixth Form Centre has now been working for five weeks, and the students are settled into their subjects.  There is a focused atmosphere as the students tackle the challenges of their Level 3 courses.  Some of our year 13 students have completed their UCAS application form as they are applying for early deadline – Oxbridge and medicine, I will keep you posted of their results.  May I take this opportunity to remind the rest of year 13 that their deadline is the 11th November.

Year 12 students will be receiving a settling in report before half term next week, it will be posted home, and it will give an early indication of how the students are adjusting to the more demanding requirements of their course.  There is an invited parents evening, next week on the 24th October, and if you have any concerns please do get in contact to make an appointment. Open for Business

260 students have completed their first week at the new centre and all are getting into a new routine and finding their way around the building. The centre was transformed over the summer, with a new coat of paint, and new flooring in the corridors, as well as the new furniture with the new purple chairs. The cafe is already proving popular, particularly the new sofas. The centre was officially opened last Friday by Peter Aldous MP, and it was lovely to share this event with so many students, parents, governors and dignitories. Thank you to all who came.

Important Bus Information

With the move to the Sixth Form Centre, Suffolk County Council have made new travel arrangements for some Sixth Form students.  It is really important that if students wish to take advantage of Suffolk County Transport, you make the application for discretionary travel as a matter of urgency.  Sixth Form students who apply for discretionary travel, have to pay a contribution towards the cost of this travel (currently £160 per term).  If that causes financial difficulty for you there is government funding available and students can apply for this through school.  Suffolk County Council do not have a duty to provide transport for Sixth Form students, and we are grateful that they have created provision for them.  However in order for them to provide and continue to run the services, students must apply to them for discretionary transport.

Over 120 students and staff met together on the 1st June to say goodbye to the current year 13.  High Lodge at Darsham were once again our hosts for the evening, and we had a delightful time.  Awards were given for sporting achievement particularly in netball and football, and other awards were distributed which were […]

Welcome Back

Year 12 returned today from two weeks study leave, whilst they took their AS exams.  They will now have a head start on their A2 courses.  The next few weeks is also really important for them to start thinking about their futures, particularly if they wish to make a university application in September.  A number of key events are happening to help support them in their decisions. On Wednesday 13th June, we will be taking some of them to the Higher Education Convention at UEA, where all the universities will be represented and they will be able to pick up prospectuses and talk to liaison officers.
