50 year 12 students are off tomorrow to the UEA for the UCAS convention where they will be able to explore their options in higher education. Over 100 universities are represented at the event and it is a useful tool for students to begin to start to gather the information they need to start their applications for university in September. This event is being followed up with a careers day on 25th June where students will be able to explore both national and local provision, apprenticeships as well as higher education. A universities evening for parents is arranged for 26th June, starting at 7pm at the sixth form centre so parents are aware of the UCAS cycle. For those students interested in a gap year, Project trust are coming in on Thursday 13th to talk about opportunities available.

The year 8 won their third and last group game of the Under 13 Aegon Tennis Tournament, beating Cliff Park 5-1. The previous matches saw them beat Archbishop Sancroft and Lynn Grove High School, winning 6-0 on both occasions. This sees the team top their group and move into the final against the other group winners. Students who have represented the team so far are Henry Caplin, Jack Pritchard, Jake Sewell, Max Stacey, Charlie Delaney, James Temple and Ben Snowling. They have all played some fabulous tennis and this team has great strength in depth. Well done on their achievements so far and good luck for the final.

In this new format of the game, we batted for two innings of eight overs. During our overs we only lost one wicket and several of our batsmen had to retire when reaching the score of 15. There were pleasing knocks from Alfie Hunt (18), Jude Ashken and Max Stacey (both 15) and Charlie Canham (12). This enabled us to reach a super total of 145 for one wicket.

When bowling, we showed pleasing control. In the first innings Jude and Max took a wicket each. The second innings the boys produced an even better display with Charlie taking a vital wicket. Niall Excell bowled the final over and took three wickets, including two caught and bowled. Thomas Mills totalled 109 for 6 wickets.

A win for the Bungay boys by 36 runs.

In a follow up game with Stradbroke another good performance saw the boys win convincingly to clinch the league title.

Bungay scored 139 for 2 wickets with Ruben Voogt scoring 28 runs and Will Tennant 45 not out.

Stradbroke scored 93 for 6 with Will Tennant taking 1 for 4 and Max Stacey taking 2 for 9.

The boys have reached the knock out stages of the County Competition.

On Wednesday a team from Bungay attended the Leiston Relay athletics event. The Bungay team started slowly but gathered momentum across the competition and had more success in the longer events. This was started with the junior boys 4 x 400m giving Bungay its first place and beating the opposition by at least 100m, well done to Joree and Joeper Cabagnot, Alex Bale and Dalton Jay.

The team seemed to become more competitive as the races got longer, wins at both Junior and intermediate boys 2 x 800m.

The Intermediate girls decided that they needed to really make a statement with their performance for Bungay, having gained the record for the same event last year for the Junior girls, they beat the event record by a second and now hold the record for both age groups. Well done to Lauren Howe and Hannah Barnes.

Special thanks to Lauren Howe and Tommie Williams for their help in organising the teams and the way in which they lead them.

The following day Lauren went on to break the school 1500m record in the year 10 sports day.

The eighth annual PrintIT! Awards took place at North Print and Pack in Harrogate. Attracting a host of industry figures, print professionals and finalist schools. The event celebrated the hard work and achievements of thousands of students who took part in this years PrintIT! Competition and we were delighted that Jake Turner ( aged 15 ) from Bungay High school won the “Best Flyer” category for his excellent designs to promote a performance at the Royal Opera House.

Jake had worked on his ideas over a half term project in his graphics lessons with Mr Gillett and had put a great deal of extra effort during weekends and lunchtimes.

All category winners were presented with a top of the range digital camera donated by Fujifilm and their schools were gifted print-related equipment for their Design departments.

Jake is the first category winner from Bungay although we have had three semi finalists before and considering that over 22, 000 students participate in this national design competition its is a massive achievement for both Jake and the school.

Well done Jake.
