SCHOOL UNIFORM
Our school uniform is an important part of our school community.
It helps students feel a sense of belonging, promotes equality, and supports a positive learning environment.
Parents and carers are responsible for ensuring that students attend school in the correct uniform and with the equipment they need for learning.
This page summarises the full uniform policy which can be found in the 'Policies - specific to BHS' section of this site. The full uniform policy should be referred to if there is any dispute around uniform.

School Uniform
Student's must wear:
- A white collared shirt, with the top button fastened.A school tie of the correct house colour.
- A school tie in the correct house colour (BRANDED ITEM).
- A black school blazer (BRANDED ITEM) – a school badge can be purchased to be used with a black blazer from other suppliers.
- A plain black V-neck jumper may be worn underneath the blazer if required.
- Either
- The regulation pleated school skirt available from the approved supplier (OPTIONAL BRANDED ITEM); or.
- Plain black tailored school trousers with a traditional front and back crease.
- Plain black or white socks, or plain black tights.
- Plain black polishable school shoes. Boots are not permitted.
- A suitable outdoor coat for travelling to and from school. Coats should be removed during the school day.
Not Permitted
The following items are not part of our school uniform:
- Hoodies.
- Fleeces.
- T-shirts worn instead of a school shirt.
- Jeans-style trousers.
- Leggings-style trousers.
- Leggings as part of the main school uniform.
- Denim clothing.
- Leather jackets.
- Boots worn instead of school shoes.
Summer uniform
During the summer term, usually from the May Bank Holiday onwards, students may wear:
- No blazer if the school has announced that summer uniform is in operation. Students should still wear their blazer to formal occasions, such as assemblies.
- Shorts with the school logo which can be purchased from our uniform supplier (OPTIONAL BRANDED ITEM)
Jewellery, Hair and Appearance
Jewellery
Students may wear:
- One pair of small, flat stud earrings.
- A wristwatch.
Students must not wear:
- Additional earrings.
- Facial piercings.
- Other visible body piercings.
- Other jewellery.
- Nail extensions/'fake' nails.
These are all for health and safety reasons to ensure students are safe in spaces such as technology workshops, science labs, and PE lessons.
Hair
Hair should:
- Be clean and tidy
- Be of a natural colour
- Be worn in a style suitable for a school environment
Long hair may need to be tied back in some lessons for safety and practicality.
Hair accessories should be discreet and either black or a colour that blends with the student's hair.
PE Kit
Required PE Kit
Students must have:
- Red BHS logo T-shirt. (BRANDED ITEM)

Black BHS logo sweatshirt. (BRANDED ITEM)

Plain black shorts, plain black tracksuit bottoms, or plain black sports leggings.

Black football socks.

Sports trainers for indoor PE and summer outdoor activities.

Football boots for winter outdoor activities.
Safety Equipment
Students must also bring:
- A gum shield for rugby and hockey.
- Shin pads for hockey and football.
These requirements follow the relevant National Governing Body guidance.
Optional
- Plain black base layer
Labelling Property
All clothing and persoal belongings should be clearly marked with the student's name.

Where there is uncertainty about whether an item meets the school's uniform expectations, the school will make the final decision. Parents and carers should contact the relevant Pastoral Year Lead for advice before purchasing an item if they are unsure.
